Australian Church Music Composition

"Golden Summer" - an Australian Christmas Carol by Elizabeth Sheppard.

This Australian carol has words that fit an Australian high summer Christmas. It's a Southern Hemisphere equivalent of the English carol "In the Bleak Midwinter" (c1850) by Christina Rosetti. The metre matches Rosetti's carol, but the melody and text are different. In Australian Christmas liturgies the verses of "In the Bleak Midwinter" are sung in alternation with "Golden Summer", to bridge the seasonal cultural gap.
